Headley may have links with Hyd: Police chief

Hyderabad, November 22: The suspected Lashkar-e-Toiba activist David Coleman Headley might have links with Hyderabad, Police Commissioner B Prasada Rao has said. Speaking at a Meet-the-Press programme organised by the Andhra Pradesh Union of Working Journalists her today, he, however, said the police do not have specific information about Headley’s activities in Hyderabad.

“The investigating agencies are not sharing the information with us. But we expect that Headley may have some links with our city though we have no specific information,’’ Prasada Rao said.

The invesigating agency intimated the City police to contact the latter whenever necessary.
“As a result we also did not contact them. But there has been a rumour that Headley’s activities are spread in our city,’’ Prasada Rao said.
Claiming that the City police are ready to provide foolproof security for the GHMC elections, the commissioner said shadow parties were vigilant on all the contesting candidates who have criminal background. “Combination of shadow parties and wide spread videography can crack the problematic elements,’’ Prasada Rao said.

When scribes questioned about passive mood among the police to crack the money flow unlike the recently held Assembly election, Prasada Rao said police decided to avoid checks unless there was a specific information.
“During the Assembly elections Rs 32 crore cash was recovered through the checks. Of that Rs 21 crore was given to the Income Tax department for verification of the source of money. But Income Tax officials had returned the money after concluding that it had nothing to do with the elections. So it has become an unnecessary harassment to the general public,’’ he added.
