Amethi, August 07: Congress General Secretary and local MP Rahul Gandhi again spent a night with the Dalits here last night and lent an ear to their problems during a village chaupal.
Mr Gandhi reached Dalit-dominated Kansapur village in Sangrampur block, about 20 kilometre from Munsiganj at around 2230 hrs last night and stayed in the village till 0300 hrs this morning.
About 300 people of the village, mostly Dalit women, gathered at the doorstep of one poor farmer Awadhesh Srivastava, where Rahul heard the people one by one by sitting on a cot.
The women appreciated the role of Mr Gandhi in launching the Self-Help Groups(SHGs) in the constituency due to which each of the poor family was earning its livelihood.
The women also sang songs in local dialect and later they offered their MP with ‘puri’ and ‘sabji’.
Mr Gandhi also took all interest in hearing the people and asked them to point out to him about the lapses in the developmental programmes launched in the region.
Later Rahul moved for Munshiganj guest house at around 0300 hrs and left for New Delhi by a special flight from Fhursatganj at around 0745 hrs.
Congress spokesperson Akhilesh Pratap Singh confirmed the visit of Mr Gandhi to the Dalit village and said the leader had left for New Delhi this morning.
Yesterday, Mr Gandhi reached Munshiganj guest house at around 2130 hrs after attending UP Congress Coordination Committee meeting in Lucknow.
The AICC General Secretary has spent several such nights with poor people in villages of Amethi and Bundelkhand in the past and the ruling Bahujan Samaj Party(BSP) has accused him of showing ”fake concern” for the Dalits just to woo the community for political purpose.
