Hyderabad, November 11: Protesting against the callous attitude of the University of Hyderabad (UoH) vice-chancellor, for giving away university land to private firms, a delegation led by executive council member, Prof HM Desarda will meet president Prathibha Patil and submit a comprehensive report.
Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Prof HM Desarda said they are preparing a comprehensive report after the public hearing held recently. Many people who spoke at the public hearing had expressed concern at allotment of varsity land, in disregard of interests of the university.
“The state government allotted land to the university and followed it by delivery possession in 1975. This land was allotted for purpose of development of the university and not to be given away,” he said.
Desarda said the EC should lay down a detailed policy for land-use, taking into account the ecosystem and future growth and development. “I expressed dissatisfaction on illegal land allotment to private firms at an EC meeting held two days ago. However, the management had taken a decision to allot land to private firms,’’ he added. He demanded that all new allotments and construction in the university must be made in accordance with land use policy and after consultation with the committee. No land was to be allotted fully or partly to publicly-owned profit making organisations except where the university is a partner and entire profit goes to the university,” he said.
“The state government should take immediate steps to transfer ownership of the land to the University of Hyderabad so the land is irrevocably alienated in favour of UoH. A delegation will also meet chief minister K Rosaiah to explain disadvantages of land allotment to private firms,’’ he observed.
