HCU students protest against kidnap attempt

Hundreds of Hyderabad Central University students gathered in front of the administration block on Friday morning demanding action against the culprits and increased security on the campus following the attempt of a group of youngsters to kidnap a girl on the campus on Thursday night.

Nothing could soothe protestors until administration official assured students’ association leaders to take concrete action immediately.

According to police and university sources a white car bearing registration number AP7Q 6222 (Maruti Zen) entered the campus around 9:45 pm on Thursday. The car was stopped by the security post at the main gate and was let go on the request of ex-student Dasari Ramakrishna and another Chakrapani, a student of M.Tech course.

It is said that the occupants of the car teased an MCA girl student near the Social Sciences Building on her way back to her hostel accompanied by another student. The girls were assaulted and the youngsters tried to pull the girl inside their car despite her refusal. The two girls shouted and subsequently other students on the campus and the security rushed to their rescue. The three of the offenders were apprehended and roughed up while two others, including Chakrapani fled.

Students have to say that the youngsters, five in all, were in an inebriated condition. They also alleged that college administration is shielding Chakrapani. The students especially girl students expressed dissatisfaction over the security provided at the campus.
