HCU to celebrate Ambedkar’s birth anniversary all year long

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Central University will hold an year-long celebration of the 125th birth anniversary of Dr B R Ambedkar, the principal architect of the Indian Constitution.

It will start tomorrow with a function in the university’s administrative building.

A committee of faculty members, students and non-teaching staff would plan the activities to be held through out the year.

“During the next one year the university proposes to organise several activities to increase awareness about Ambedkar’s contribution to the welfare of society and humanity, in particular his vision of industrialisation to generate employment for the poor and deprived sections of the Indian society,” an HCU release said.

A seminar on the preamble of the Constitution is being planned. There would be a reading out of the preamble for the students and employees on November 26, the Constitution Day.

HCU, also known as University of Hyderabad, has been at the centre of a controversy since the suicide of Dalit research scholar Rohit Vemula in January, with the students demanding removal of the vice-chancellor Appa Rao Podile.
