Chennai, March 23: Taking suo motu cognisance of a news report, a division Bench of Madras High Court today directed Election Commission and Tamil Nadu Advocate General to take notice and advance arguments on March 28 with regard to a statement by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi.
The Bench, comprising justices Elipe Dharma Rao and M Venugopal observed it was treating the item as a writ petition as questions raised in it were of constitutional importance, touching its basic structure, the powers and duties of various organs under the Constitution and also since the subject was connected with a pending writ petition.
