New Delhi, August 12: The Delhi High Court today sought a fresh status report from MCD on a PIL seeking direction to take steps for closure of illegal slaughter houses in the city.
A Division Bench of Chief Justice A P Shah and Justice Manmohan sought the report with details about the number of slaughter houses in the city, after the construction of mordern Ghazipur slaughter house, within a week and directed a senior officer to be present on August 19, the next date of hearing, to explain the situation.
The court’s direction came on a PIL filed by one Mohamed Amjad Thakur alleging the civic agency’s failure to control the illegal slaughter houses in the city.
According to the petitioner, the slaughter houses are running illegally in residential areas in connivance with MCD officials and no action has been taken by the concerned authority despite several complaints from residents.
He contended that these slaughter houses create unhygienic conditions in the locality and the agency failed to take any measure to maintain cleanliness.
