HC seeks action on traffic snarls in Hyderabad

Hyderabad, February 05: The state government on Friday gave an undertaking to the AP High Court that an action plan would be ready within four weeks to prevent traffic snarls caused by illegal parking on the city roads.

This would be done by coordinating with the GHMC and the traffic police.
Justice NV Ramana of the High Court on Thursday directed the top officers of the traffic wing of Hyderabad city and Cyberabad to be present before the court in person to explain the measures taken by them to curb illegal parking on the city roads.

CV Anand, head of traffic wing, and Chandrasekhar Reddy, DCP (traffic) of Cyberabad, appeared in the court on Friday. Hearing a writ petition filed by Model Space Owners Associations complaining against the GHMC collecting parking charges on the private properties of their associations, the court appointed an advocate commissioner. After perusing the report, the court called for the presence of the officers. The judge adjourned the case by four weeks for the government to submit the action plan.

HRF plea against Metro Rail
The Human Rights Forum (HRF) filed a writ petition in the AP High Court challenging the competence of the state government to take up the Metro Rail project in Hyderabad. The writ petition is likely to come up for hearing next week. The petitioner, represented by its president Jeevan Kumar, contended that the state government could take up tramway but not metro works. The petitioner invoked Article 243 of the constitution and said that the metropolitan planning committee had been sidelined. Land acquisition proceedings were also challenged as without authority.
