HC Rejects Pil Against Botcha

The Andhra Pradesh High Court has dismissed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) petition filed against PCC Chief Botcha Satyanarayana that alleged that he had spent Rs 50 crores on his daughter’s marriage recently and prayed the court to order an inquiry into the issue.

Congress Secular Hindu Forum Committee convener L Ravikumar Reddy filed the PIL in the High Court last week alleging that there were news reports that Botcha had spent Rs.50 crores. The petitioner pleaded with the High Court to order an inquiry by the Income Tax Principal Secretary into the amount spent by Botcha on his daughter’s wedding. He had also pleaded with the High Court to order an inquiry into the money spent on lodging and transport of the VIPs attended to the marriage by the Chief Secretary.

The petitioner made Chief Secretary, Principal Secretary of Home, district Collectors, RTAs of Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram, Income Tax Commissioner and Botcha Satyanarayana as respondents. The petitioner had alleged that the media had reported that Botcha had spent over Rs.50 crores and misused the government machinery blatantly. (NSS)
