The Delhi High Court today refused to grant interim anticipatory bail to a man, who claimed to be a close relative of former Army Chief General V K Singh, in a cheating case.
Denying any relief to Shambhu Prasad Singh, who also claimed to be a defence contractor and allegedly duped people
after projecting himself as an IAS officer at the home ministry, the court directed Delhi Police to file a status
report by March 14.
Justice Kailash Gambhir asked Public Prosecutor Naveen Sharma to file the status report about his antecedents and the number of criminal cases against him.
According to the prosecution, using a fake government identity card showing himself as a bureaucrat, Singh had
cheated several banks.
On February 2, Delhi Police’s Economic Offences Wing registered an FIR against Singh for cheating and forgery. The
police also named Singh’s wife and five others in the case.
Singh’s two companies were blacklisted by Army and paramilitary forces for financial irregularities in 2011.
The EOW registered the case on a complaint by Rajkot-based businessman Anil Jethani who had bought property
in Delhi’s Green Park Extension from Singh for Rs 5.17 crore.
Singh allegedly tried to intimidate Jethani later, and created a fake lease deed in the name of Kolkata-based
National Thinkers Forum, police said.
Singh has been charged under IPC sections 420 (cheating) and 471 (using as genuine a forged document).
