HC quashes Telugu medium candidates’ plea on Model School Teachers’ test

The Andhra Pradesh High Court on Wednesday quashed the plea of Telugu medium candidates, who sought eligibility to appear for the AP Model School Teachers’ test scheduled to be held on May 10-11.

Disposing a petition, the court responded favourably to the view of government that to maintain standards in teaching levels, it was necessary to have English medium teachers in model schools.

The government’s counsel argued that the purpose of maintaining standards at English medium schools would be defeated with the appointment of Telugu medium teachers and appealed to the court not to give eligibility for Telugu medium candidates in the recruitment for Model Schools.

The government argued that to maintain standards in teaching levels, it was necessary to have English medium teachers. However, the counsel of Telugu medium candidates contended that they were equally competent. After hearing the arguments from both sides, the court dismissed the petition of Telugu Medium candidates.

With this court direction, the government can go ahead in recruitment of 7,000 model school teachers test on May 10-11 without any further legal complications. (INN)
