Mumbai, October 13: A sessions court today granted bail to a peon attached to the Bombay High Court, arrested for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 500 from an advocate.
Sreedhar Chauhan, a peon in the court of Justice V K Tahiramani, was arrested two days back by the Anti-Corruption Bureau of the police after he was caught while accepting the bribe amount in the court premises.
Additional sessions Judge K C Chandwani, while granting Chauhan bail on a bond of Rs 5000, observed that his custody is not required further.
According to ACB, the accused had demanded the bribe from senior advocate Anil Budge for getting his case circulated to another court on an urgent basis.
Budge had moved a petition before the High Court for the transfer of his client’s case from the Mazgaon metropolitan magistrate’s court to a court in Pune.
