Madras High Court has ordered a judicial inquiry into a charge that a person was physically tortured by police personnel in June this year. Justice N Paul Vasanthakumar ordered Principal Sessions Judge, Tiruvallur to enquire into the charge that one G Arun was illegally detended and physically tortured by police and to submit a report before the Court in eight weeks. Arun’s mother, the petitioner, submitted that on June 16, 2012 the personnel had come to their residence in a police vehicle, assaulted her son and taken him away. Not knowing his whereabouts, she had sent telegrams to police officials and made representations to officials to release her son, but in vain. On June 20, she came to know her son was remanded before Judicial Magistrate No II, Ponneri and when she visited him, found injuries in his body, she said. Medical check ups also found injuries on his body, she claimed. PTI
