HC notice to chief secretary for violating stay

Hyderabad, November 10: A division bench of the AP High Court comprising chief justice Nisar Ahmad Kakru and justice Vilas Afzalpurkar on Monday ordered notice to chief secretary S V Prasad and granted him two weeks time to purge himself of charges of contempt.

The bench is dealing with a contempt petition filed by K S B Ali complaining that the government and certain other authorities, including the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority, were either taking up constructions in the Kokapet lands or encouraging others to do so. Earlier, a batch of cases were filed questioning the failure of the government in handing over the auctioned land to the bidders free of litigation.

Aggrieved by an order of a single judge, the g ove r nment went in appeal. The bench then ordered a status quo. In the present application it is complained that the government and the HMDA were permitting and participating in construction activity at the site contrary to the order of status quo.
