HC issues notice to Govt. for constituting APS Minorities Finance Corporation

AP High Court issued notice to State Govt. for the formation of APS Minorities Corporation seeking clarification for the method adopted to provide representation to Minority communities.

The Division Bench consisting of Chief Justice Mr. Kalyan Jyothi Sen Gupta and Justice P.V. Sanajay Kumar accepted a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) and issued notice to Govt. of A.P. Mr. M.M. Baig challenged the GO. 60 dated 17th February in respect of reorganization of APS Minorities Finance Corporation. In his petition, Mr. Baig challenged that the Govt. appointed Chairman and 11 members from among the Muslims only neglecting other Minority communities like Sikhs, Jains, Parsis and Budhists. All these communities constitute 12% of the State population. The court refused to issue Stay Order on his petition and clarified that all these appointments would be subject to court orders.

It may be noted that the nominations to the Finance Corporation were made at a time when Mr. Kiran Kumar Reddy was preparing to resign. While appointing the Board of Directors, injustice has been done to Telangana region. Majority of the Members of the Board of Directors belong to Seema Andhra region. Due to this reason, Minority leaders of Congress objected to the Chairman’s taking charge. They complained that non-Congress members have also been included in the board of Directors.
