HC grants bail to top AP Maoist leader Sriramulu

Cuttuck, April 22: The Orissa High Court on Thursday granted bail to top Maoist leader of Andhra Pradesh Sriramulu Srinivasulu, who is now lodged in Malkanigiri jail for his alleged involvement in an attack on the Odisha police.

The single judge bench of Justice CR Dash granted bail to Sriramulu for a bail bond of Rs 30,000 and two sureties of like amount. The High Court, however, has imposed some strict conditions on the release of the Maoist leader who was arrested in July, 2007 from Bariguda forest in Kalimela area of Malkangiri district.

The High Court has asked Sriramulu to leave Odisha within 24 hours of his release and not to enter into the State unless and until he is summoned by any court of Odisha. One of the conditions imposed by the High Court is that during Sriramulu’s travel to Odisha to face the trial in local court, he shall be escorted into Odisha border by Andhra Pradesh police and shall also leave the State under Andhra police escort, informed Sriramulu’s counsel P K Jena.

Sriramulu, a hardcore Maoist shall not indulge himself in any activities of any banned organisation during the bail period; the High Court said adding that he shall also cooperate with the investigating police officer whenever required. His release was one of the demands of the Maoists in Malakangiri Collector R V Krishna’s abduction case in February, 2011.

Sriramulu, a former chief of Revolutionary Writers’ Association, was also facing at least six dacoity cases in Odisha and in all these cases he had been acquitted by the Malkangiri court earlier.

Meanwhile the Koraput police on Thursday seized about 50 kg of RDX ,30 mts wire, 180 gelatin sticks , four detonators about three km away from Deomali while moving from Kunduli. A team led by Koraput Superintendent of Police Anup Kumar Sahu recovered the explosives at about 9 am on with the help of District Voluntary Force and bomb squad. In a Press meet south-western range DIG Soumendra Priyadarshi said the explosives might have been planted to stop the movement of police while the most wanted CMAS leader Nachika Linga called a meeting in March. In this operation Potangi Inspector in-Charge Hemant Kumar Panda and Semiliguda IIC Sarat Chandra Sahu were also present.

In another incident two persons were arrested by the Railway police in Rourkela and huge quantity of detonators recovered from Khariabahal slum in Rourkela. The seizure included 3,000 detonators, more than Rs 50,000 in cash and three cell phones.
