Mumbai: The Bombay High Court on Tuesday granted two weeks additional time to actor Salman Khan to furnish sureties Rs 25,000 as directed by it while acquitting him in the 2002 hit-and-run case.
On December 10, Justice A R Joshi of the high court acquitted Salman and quashed and set aside the trial court’s order convicting the actor and sentencing him to five years in jail, for allegedly driving his car under the influence of alcohol and running over people sleeping on the footpath in suburban Bandra in 2002.
The actor on Monday approached the HC, seeking further time to submit the sureties as certain formalities are not yet over.
Meanwhile, the Mumbai police have issued a circular to all police stations in the city highlighting the lapses in the investigations in case.
This is apparently done to prevent the embarrassment of losing a case, especially where high profile personalities are involved.
The circular mentions 16 lapses among the several procedural lapses of the police in the case, which the high court had mentioned in its judgement.
