HC dismisses PIL demanding CBI probe into Mayawati land

Lucknow: The Allahabad High Court on Monday dismissed a public interest litigation (PIL) filed against Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati demanding a CBI probe into an alleged land scam.

Petitioner Sandeep Bhatt had alleged that the former UP chief minister had got a vast stretch of land allotted in her family’s name by misusing her position and got illegal construction done on it in Badalpur, her native village in Gautam Budh Nagar.

A bench of Chief Justice D.B. Bhonsle and Justice Yashwant Verma dismissed the petition.

Earlier the Allahabad High Court had in 2017 served a notice on the four-time UP chief minister, her brother Anand Kumar and father Prabhu Dayal in a case in which the Dalit leader is accused of getting the agricultural land use changed and transferring the land to her family members.

Mayawati has a huge mansion built on this land, the petitioner said, alleging that Mayawati, between 2002-2005, purchased over 50 bighas of agricultural land from farmers and got the construction done without following procedure.
