HC directs to demolish function halls constructed on Waqf land of Toli Masjid

Toli Masjid, a heritage site built in 1671 AD, has 27 acres and 30 guntas of Waqf property attached to it. Its market value is said to be 600 to 1000 crore rupees. However, most of the land has been encroached upon by influential land grabbers and illegal constructions can be found across the property.

7000 acre Waqf land has been given for Shamsan Ghaatt although there was Muslim graveyard there. Land grabbers have constructed three large function halls on the land. One such illegally constructed function hall became operational.

Deccan Waqf Protection Society and its activists struggled hard against the encroachment. Their struggle received a break through when a division bench comprising of Chief Justice Dilip C Bhosle and Justice SV Bhatt directed GHMC to take legal action against the function Halls constructed on Waqf land.

Mohammed Abdur Rauf R/O of Karan had filed a petition against the construction under public interest. Noted lawyer Mr. Osman Shaheed advocate and his son Adnan Shaheed advocate successfully followed the case.

Built by Mir Musa Khan Mahaldar during the reign of Abdullah Qutub Shah, the masjid is a “protected heritage site” as per declaration of Archaeological Survey of India.
