HC directs fresh election in Darya Ganj MCD ward

New Delhi, April 25: The Delhi High Court today directed that fresh elections be held in Darya Ganj MCD ward, upholding the trial judge’s order which set aside the election of BJP candidate on the ground that he had suppressed information about holding a kerosene oil depot license at the time of filing his nomination papers.

Justice S Muralidhar, however, rejected the lower court order declaring Ramesh Dutta, a Congress candidate, elected as councillor in place of BJP’s Sunder and directed the Election Commission to hold fresh election for Ward No 153.

“The seat to municipal ward no 153, Darya Ganj is vacant and fresh elections will be held to fill up the said vacancy in accordance with law,” the court said
