Ahmedabad: A 22-year-old man was awarded the death penalty for raping and murdering a minor aged 3 in Surat today.
The Gujarat high court placed the case the offence in the “rarest of the rare” category, TOI reports.
The order was given by a division bench of justice Bela Trivedi and justice AC Rao who refused to show any leniency to the convict.
Convict Anil Yadav had committed the crime on October 14, 2018, in Limbayat area of Surat.
The convict Yadav was punished for rape, murder, unnatural sex and attempt to destroy the evidence by the trial court in July.
The three-year-old The minor had gone missing in the evening of October 18, 2014 but was later found in the next morning packed in a plastic bag at Yadav’s home.
The convict had initially joined the search for the minor but later disappeared and his house was found locked.
He had then fled to his native village in Bihar. The Police arrested him on October 19, 2018, from Maniya village in Bihar’s Buxar district.
