HC censures TS govt for not reinstating Congress MLAs

Hyderabad: The High Court on July 27 censured the Telangana government for failing to implement its verdict with regard to reinstatement of Congress MLAs Komatireddy Venkat Reddy and SA Sampath Kumar, who were earlier expelled from the Assembly.

Dealing with Contempt of Court petition of Komatireddy Venkat Reddy and SA Sampath Kumar, the High Court took a serious note and directed the State government to give clarity on the issue within a week or Legislature Secretary should appear before it personally to give an explanation. The Court also pulled up Additional Advocate General Ramachandra Rao asking him whether he was a government advocate or TRS party advocate. The Court asked him to give clarity within a week and adjourned the case to August 3.

It may be mentioned here that Telangana Assembly Speaker S Madhusudhana Chary expelled two Congress MLAs Komatireddy Venkat Reddy and SA Sampath Kumar for throwing head phones at Legislative Council chairman Swamy Goud during Governor’s speech during budget session. Challenging the Speaker’s ruling, both the MLAs approached the Court. The Court had given its verdict restoring membership of two Congress MLAs.

Challenging the single bench verdict, 12 TRS MLAs approached the full bench, which upheld the verdict of single bench. Yet, the Speaker didn’t restore membership of two Congress MLAs. Once again, the Congress MLAs approached the High Court with a Contempt of the Court petition. (NSS)
