Hyderabad: The High Court here on Monday censured Mahbubnagar Superintendent of Police Vishwa Prasad for not mentioning the names of sand mafia gangsters.
The High Court took up hearing in the sand mafia case responding to a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by 27 farmers from Mahbubnagar district, who alleged that the ground water levels were hitting the rock bottom due to indiscriminate digging of sand. SP Vishwa Prasad was present in the Court.
The court pulled up the SP for not mentioning the names of the sand mafia member in the counter affidavit. The court directed the SP to initiate steps immediately considering the victims’ problems and adjourned the case to next week. The court also asked the SP to file cases against political leaders, who were behind the sand mafia. When the SP revealed they have filed cases and interrogation was on, the court asked the SP to submit a comprehensive report on the issue. (NSS)
