HC asks state to make SIT findings on Ishrat public

Ahmedadbad, July 16: The Gujarat High Court directed the special public prosecutor (SPP) appearing on behalf of the state government to make the findings of the Special Investigation Team public in connection with the 2004 Ishrat Jahan “fake” encounter case.

The court was hearing petitions urging a CBI probe into the alleged fake encounter in which four alleged LeT operatives were killed by Ahmedabad City Detection of Crime Branch personnel. Two of them were Ishrat Jahan and Pranesh Pillai alias Javed, whose mother (Shamima) and father (Gopinath Pillai), respectively, had moved the pleas. arlier, while hearing the two petitions, a single-judge HC bench of Justice K S Jhaveri had appointed an SIT to probe into the allegations made by the petitioners. The SIT had submitted its interim report to the court.

On Thursday, Gopinath Pillai’s lawyer Mukul Sinha argued that they must at least know the conclusion arrived at by the SIT. Shamima’s lawyer, I H Saiyed, also made a similar demand.
