The High Court has adjourned the hearing to Thursday on a petition pertaining to conduct of elections for Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC).
When the case came up hearing on Monday, the Telangana Government informed the High Court that it has already begun the process of delimitation of GHMC wards. It sought some more time from the curt to give possible dates for conducting the elections. However, the court granted four days time to the government and adjourned the next hearing to April 16 (Thursday).
It may be mentioned that M Padmanabha Reddy of Centre for Good Governance had filed a Public Interest Litigation with the High Court demanding its intervention in early conduct of GHMC elections. The State Government, in its counter petition, had sought a time of 249 days to conduct the polls. However, the court rejected the State Government’s contention and asked it to announce the poll schedule. (INN)
