Hazlewood fires warning shot at Guptill ahead of Test series

Melbourne: Australian pace spearhead Josh Hazlewood believes that his side will try to expose star batsman Martin Guptill’s vulnerabilities in the two-match Test series against New Zealand, which starts on Friday at Wellington.

Hazlewood, who dismissed Guptill three times during the home series in November, said that Australia got the better of the big-hitting opener in the recent series on Australian soil.

The right-handed bowler opined that Guptill was a bit uncertain in the longer format of the game despite his superb confidence in limited-overs games. He added that Australia would try to exploit that factor and aim to stay on top of the swashbuckling batsman throughout the series, News.com.au reported.

Despite holding the record for the highest individual score in a World Cup and the second highest score in one-day history (237 not out), Guptill has an unimpressive Test average of 30.

Hazlewood also believes that Guptill, who accumulated scores of 90, 31 and 59 in the just- concluded ODI series, would find it difficult to sustain his prime form as soon as the ball turns red. (ANI)
