New Delhi, April 18: Upset over the “smear” campaign launched against civil society leadership, Anna Hazare today complained to Congress President Sonia Gandhi that “corrupt forces” have united to derail the process of drafting an effective Lokpal bill.
Hazare, who is leading a campaign for a strong anti-graft legislation, today wrote a two-page letter to Gandhi, making veiled references to Congress General Secretary Digvijay Singh, who has been attacking him, and to HRD Minister Kapil Sibal, and asked her to advise her “colleagues” not to try to derail the process of drafting of law.
However, Sibal’s office issued a release in the evening denying the charge that he had held any media briefing at his residence on Saturday after the first meeting of the joint drafting committee on Lokpal nor made any statement that the civil society members “have succumbed to government pressure”.
“It is patently false.
