Hazards of Tobacco use highlighted

The photo exhibition was formally inaugurated by Dr. Y. Kiron Kumar, Honorary Consul of the Republic of Bulgaria in Andhra Pradesh. The exhibition is open to public from 10 am to 7 pm. Depending on the response, the exhibition will also be extended to May 31st.

The organizers have requested youth particularly IT professionals to visit the exhibition in next two days. The recent statistics by WHO, and Indian Health Ministry suggest that there is an alarming increase in usage of Tobacco not just among the adults but also among the school and college students. And according to a study, about 60 Lakhs the world over and about 10 Lakhs people are dying in India every year. The study further revealed that smoking may soon account to 20% of all male deaths and 5% of female deaths among Indians between the age of 30 and 69.

Speaking on the occasion the Chief Guest Dr. Y. Kiron lauded the efforts made by VUM Rao, Director Hyderabad Hospitals.com for organizing this event and stressed the need for bringing about an awareness in people in general and youngsters in particular on the perils of smoking and tobacco.

Dr. Ravi Kumar, while addressing the gathering informed that it is better to stop non smokers resuming to smoking. Speaking on the occasion he said Hukka / Sheesha consumption is on the rise in the city, which is as bad and as harmful as smoking. He also said passive smoking is more dangerous than active smoking. It has more carcinogenic chemicals than active smoking.
