Having sexual contacts under the pretext of marriage amounts to rape, SC decides

New Delhi: Supreme Court of India gave a ruling that establishing sexual contacts under the pretext of marrying a woman amounts to raping her as it damages the respect and dignity of a woman.

If the man rapes a woman and continues to live with her, it can’t form the basis for the cancellation of crime.

The court observed that such incidents are on the increase in society.

According to the details of the case, a woman had alleged that a doctor had raped her in 2013.

In her petition, she stated that she had fallen in love with the doctor since 2009. He had promised to marry her. Later, the man married another woman.

An FIR was registered against the doctor. The judge found him guilty and sentenced him ten years’ rigorous imprisonment.
