Hate Tweet: Pune student arrested for spewing venom against Muslims

A 21-year-old Pune engineering student was held for posting offensive tweets against Muslims.

Amitesh Vijaysinh Kate, who went by the name Amitesh Singh on Twitter, sent a series of provocative tweets on Sunday using the hashtag #Godhraagain calling for attacks on Muslims.

He started tweeting offensively after the violence at Shamli in Uttar Pradesh last week.

His tweets went viral on social media as he allegedly provoked violence against Muslims drawing complaints from many.

His twitter account had stated that he was the vice president of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), BJP’s youth wing and also claimed that his PM Modi was following his Twitter account.

However, BJP has denied the claim that he was a member of the party. Sensing trouble he expressed regret for his tweets and deleted his account and stated his account had been hacked and the offensive tweets were posted by the hacker.

He has been booked under sections 153A and 295A of IPC and Section 66F of the IT Act for hate speech.
