Toronto: Indo-Canadian Politician, member of the Ontario provincial parliament, Jagmeet Singh who was disrupted by a woman during an event in Brampton said that it was important to stand united against all forms of hate.
According to the report published in Hindustan Times, referring the incident which took place in Brampton, a Toronto suburb, he said, “As soon as I was introduced, a person confronted me with angry, hateful and Islamophobic comments, I had to act fast and set the tone for the room”.
It is also reported that Jagmeet Singh’s response to Islamophobia has never been “I’m not Muslim” rather it is always “hate is wrong”. He further said that once hate is allowed to grow, it spreads like fire.
It may be mentioned that during an event at the Professor’s Lake Community Centre in Brampton a woman started yelling at him about Sharia law. She said, “When is your Sharia going to end?” Responding to it, Mr. Singh said, “What this is, we don’t want to be intimidated by hate. We don’t want hatred to ruin a positive event, so let’s show people how we treat people with love.” He also further told the audience, “We’re not worried about this. It’s OK. As a brown-skinned turban-wearing man I have faced things like this before.”
