Hate crime: Surgeon stabbed on way to mosque for evening prayers

Altrincham: A Muslim surgeon was stabbed with a knife on his way to a mosque for evening prayers.

The incident happened at around 5:50 pm on Sunday 24 September 2017 outside the Altrincham Islamic Centre in Greater Manchester, the media reported.

Dr Nasser Kurdy, 58, a consultant orthopaedic surgeon, was on his way to the mosque when someone approached him from behind and stabbed in the back of the neck.

Dr Kurdy said that he heard ‘anti-Muslim comments’ at the time of the attack.

A video footage posted on Facebook following the stabbing shows the moments of the victim immediately after the attack.

Dr Kurdy is described as a “much-loved” guy, very gentle, loved by the community Muslim and non-Muslim alike. He is the vice-chairman and occasionally does the sermon at Friday prayers.

Greater Manchester Police have arrested two people 54-year-old man and a 32-year-old man in connection with the hate crime incident and are questioning.
