Haryana’s next cop faces molestation charges

Yamunagar, June 10: After the Ruchika molestation case involving former Haryana DGP SPS Rathore, another former top state policeman has been booked for allegedly molesting and intimidating a woman when he was superintendent of police here.

“We have registered a case against former Inspector General of Police M S Ahlawat under sections 327 (voluntarily causing hurt), 354 (assault with intent to outrage a woman’s modesty) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of IPC,” Station House Officer here Manohar Lal said today.

He said the charges will be probed in depth and the investigations have begun.

Thirty- six- year- old Arvinder Kaur said when she went to lodge a complaint against her inlaws in 2002, Ahlawat had insisted on meeting her at his camp office. He then sexually harassed her.

“If Rathore was not in office then, Ahlawat would not have dared to do such a thing. Ahlawat would not have had the guts to harass a lady who had gone to him for help in a dowry case,” Kaur claimed.

The police will initiate action after the SIT submits its report in the matter,” said Yamunanagar superintendent of police Sibash Kabiraj said.

He said a team including the Yamunanagar station house officer had been constituted to investigate the matter. It would submit its report soon, Kabiraj said.

Maintaining that it was not easy for her to get a case registered against Ahlawat, she said she would go all out to take the case to its logical conclusion.
