Mahendragarh: Greed over property made son an oppressor, making him torture his own father when he refused to transfer his source of livelihood, his 3 acres of agricultural land in his son’s name.
Sixty-six-year-old Balbir Singh was rescued on Thursday by Police from his residence in Dhalori village in Mahendragarh district of Haryana after his son took him hostage and tortured him, HT reported.
Not only his son but also other family members allegedly kept Singh hungry, beat him and tied him to a cot for three days to pressurise him for transferring his land to his son.
The police raided their house after Singh’s neighbours heard his cries while he was tortured. He could be rescued and taken to a health care centre which furthered him to the civil hospital.
After primary treatment, the victim registered a complaint to the police that his family members, including his wife, were pressuring him to transfer his land in his son’s name.
The police said Singh had a sour relationship with his brother and wife and was living in Bikaner in Rajasthan. He had come home some time back to check on his land when his family started mounting pressure on him. The police quoting the victim said he did not want to transfer his land as it was his source of livelihood.
“He said his entire family wanted to prove his mental condition was not stable to get his land. Based on his complaint, we have registered a case against seven members of his family, including his son and wife for illegal confinement, criminal intimidation and voluntary causing hurt. We have arrested his son Bhupinder Singh and nephew Abhay Singh. More arrests will follow,” said inspector Kamal Deep Rana, station house officer of Nangal Chaudhary police station in Mahendragarh.
