Chandigarh, December 20: The Haryana Government is spending a sum of Rs 56.48 crore during the current financial year to promote sports in the state.
State Minister for Home, Industries and Sports, Gopal Kanda, while announcing the figure, said that state government is determined to promote sporting activities in the state on a large scale.
The amount of the prize money given to the sportspersons wining gold, silver and bronze medals in the national games has been increased to Rs three lakh, Rs two lakh and Rs one lakh respectively by the state government, he said after inaugurating a school level Sports meet at GRG School in Sirsa today.
Earlier, they were given a sum of Rs 51,000, Rs 31,000 and Rs 11,000 respectively.
The Arjuna and Dronacharya awardees were being given an honorarium of Rs 5,000 per month respectively, he added.
