Gurgaon, February 08: Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda has urged the Centre to provide a one-time special grant of Rs 312 crore for strengthening the police infrastructure in the National Capital Region (NCR) and Rs 35.41 crore for achieving integration of infrastructure and security-related technology for the Commonwealth Games.
Hooda also demanded mega city status for Gurgaon and Faridabad. Proposals for the one-time grant and security needs for the Games, have already been submitted to the Centre.
At the conference of chief ministers on internal security convened by Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh in New Delhi on Sunday, Hooda also demanded three more IR Battalions and one Mahila Battalion to meet the challenges posed by the rapid economic expansion and the resultant population explosion in the NCR.
Other demands included early approval and release of funds for Haryana’s proposal to set up Rs 38-crore modern forensic sciences laboratory in NCR; and an annual allocation of Rs 100 crore for modernisation of its police force. At present Haryana has just one forensic lab in in its Madhuban police research and training center in Karnal.
