Haryana asks UP to resotre its share of Yamuna water

Chandigarh, April 13: Haryana has asked Uttar Pradesh to immediately restore state?s “legitimate” share in Yamuna river waters upstream of the Okhla Barrage saying “denial” of the share has badly hit four districts of the state.

Haryana Irrigation and Finance Minister Capt Ajay Singh Yadav has, in a written communication addressed to Irrigation and Public Works Department Minister of Uttar Pradesh Nasimuddin Siddiqui has said the “denial” of the rightful share has made the districts of Faridabad, Palwal, Mewat and parts of Gurgaon “suffer badly”.

The area under irrigation has shrunk in these districts and the agricultural produce has been affected, an official spokesman said here today.

The brewing resentment among farmers of these districts had found an echo on the floor of Haryana Assembly during the last session with a large number of legislators voicing their concern over the issue.
