Haryana: 25-yr-old youth killed for marrying Dalit girl

Chandigarh: Throwing insight into the nation’s backward communities which still believe in the honour killing, the perpetrators in India should be tried for murder perpetrators and served with stringent punishments as an example for committing murder.

A case of honour killing has been reported in Haryana’s Hisar town where a 25-yr-old youth was stabbed who eventually succumbed to death on Wednesday.

Shyam Arora who belonged to a Punjabi community eloped with Sapna, a Dalit girl and married her on 31 January 2017.

Sapna’s brother Sahil, Pawan maternal uncle along with one more person visited Sapna’s home for the first time after her marriage with Shyam.

Her brother and maternal uncle stabbed Shyam when Sapna went in to prepare tea for the guests. Sapna too got injured when she intervened. Shyam was rushed to hospital but could not be saved. According to the Doctors, Shyam was repeatedly stabbed six times on chest.

According to the Investigation officer Pawan Kumar said the two suspects Pawan and Shail have been arrested on Wednesday. Sahil’s mother Santosh and brother have also been named in the FIR registered. “Shyam’s family has alleged that apart from Sahil and Pawan, other family members were also involved in the conspiracy. The investigation is still going on” said the officer.

According to police sources, the duo married against their families wishes, and the couple stayed away from town for four months. Sapna belonged to the Valmiki community. The couple came back to his house at Bank Colony in Hisar after four months.

During the interrogation, it was revealed that the suspects planned to murder the couple since their marriage and that they have also brought a gun from UP to shoot them. The gun did not work the day they arrived at the couple’s house and Shyam was stabbed by a knife. His wife Sapna along with their neighbours rushed Shyam to Hospital.

The couple has reportedly filed a complaint with the Police since they were being threatened by the family members after their marriage. The both families came to mutual cooperation before the social Panchayath.

According to the IO officer, the suspects will be produced before the magistrate on Thursday. “We have to recover the knife and pistol used in the crime. The third suspect, who had gone to the home of Shyam, has also been identified” said the officer.
