Allahabad: In a gesture of ‘communal harmony’, volunteers belonging to both Hindu and Muslim communities united on Saturday to clean Allahabad ghats after they were left with heaps of trash by devotees on Friday.
Located on river Yamuna, major ghats such as Balua ghat and Gau ghat were cleaned by the group of people. Thousands of devotees visit Allahabad to worship the Sun during Chhath pujan, post which flowers, agarbattis, polybags are left behind by these devotees, TOI mentions.
However, the volunteers of group, Avam Seva Samiti visited Allahabad ghats to get rid of the garbage. They collected flowers, earthen pots, diya, polybags etc, and disposed them of in a pit.
Avam Seva Samiti is led by Mohammad Abrar, President, which comprises of both Hindu and Muslim volunteers.
