Haritha Haram is CM’s brainchild: KTR

Telanganaku Haritha Haram is a brainchild of Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao to expand green cover to 33 per cent from existing 24 per cent in the state, Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister KT Rama Rao has said.

Participating at Green Drive program at few places in the twin cities as part of setting a record to plant 25 lakhs of saplings in a single day, he said that after China and Africa that made big efforts of world records Telangana State is making such a daring effort to plan 46 crores of saplings a year and 230 cr over next four years. The aim of the government is to increase forest cover in the state to 33 per cent which will help get rains, balance ecology, protect environment from pollution and route drought. Since the city is to become a green belt area we are for reaching the target with peoples’ participation he said.

“It is our responsibility to participate in the green drive to plant help survive the saplings for our future of green pastures”, KTR noted. He also expressed concern that shortfall in green cover will lead to imbalance of ecology to have adverse impact on our lives. Let us not see the green drive as a government program and instead everyone should think it as their home affair and plant one sapling at least and protect them to offer Green Telangana for posterity”, KTR noted.

STATEHOOD SPIRIT: HARISH

Harish Rao, who turned up at the event said that the lives of people are very much connected with trees and saplings. We used to tie a cloth made cradle to a branch of a tree when a child is born and use the wood to complete the final rites of a person died. He also asked the people of Medak district to support the greenery to 33 per cent from 6 to 7 per cent. With better green cover Adilabad and Khammam districts are receiving heavy rains and lakes and ponds are filled up with abundant waters he said. People should follow the statehood spirit in the green drive as a call given byChief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao he said.

Deputy Chief Minister Mahamood Ali and Legislator Vijaya Reddy participated in a green drive program in the city. He asked the people to try to protect the saplings after planting them in their houses, offices and empty places. The greenery expansion will get us more rains and on preservation we can use waters for irrigation and drinking purposes he added. Let us make a unified effort to increase the green cover to 33 per cent to reach the target of the government he called upon the people. (NSS)
