Giving a push to the ongoing Haritha Haram program across the state, Assembly Speaker S. Madhusudhana Chary, Deputy Speaker Padma Devender Reddy, Legislative Council Chairman Swamy Goud on Tuesday participated in the green drive at various places in the city.
Speaking on the occasion, Chary said that the green drive by the state government has become a people’s movement expressed satisfaction at the huge turnout of the people, the Speaker said that it is time for protecting the saplings after the plantation drive.
The state government has a plan to increase forest cover to 33% through green drive which would help in abundant rains during the Monsoon, he said.
Earlier, they planted saplings at Legislative Assembly and Council premises. The leaders also planted sapling at the Old and New MLA Quarters in the city.
Swamy Goud, Madhusudhana Chary, Padma Reddy and Assembly Secretary Raja Sadaram planted saplings and sprinkled waters on them. Government Whip G Sunitha, council deputy chairman N Vidyasagar Rao, N Lakshman Rao, P Sudhakar Reddy, Stephenson, BJP leaders G Kishan Reddy, Ch Ramachandra Reddy and Congress leaders P Sudhakar Reddy and others also took part in the green drive.(INN)
