Harish slams Cong, TDP–Says 40 Cr fish seedlings to be released into lakes

Warangal: Irrigation Minister T Hariah Rao today said that the fisheries department during previous Congress Government worked in favour of Andhra region and did not bother about Telangana region. The State Government will release as many as 40 crore of fish seedlings in various lakes, water bodies, ponds and reservoirs in Telangana districts for the cause of the fishermen community in the state, Harish stated.
Addressing a meeting at Market yard here, the Irrigation Minister lashed out at Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu for trying to sabotage the irrigation projects in the state. Though the Government took up the projects began during previous regimes and not new ones, the TDP Chief is trying to stall the related works, he said. The minister ridiculed the Telugu Desam Telangana leaders for staging protests on farmers’ issues. He took serious exception to the TD regime which neglected the agricultural activity during united state, but now talking of farmers’ woes. They have no right to talk on the issue and our government is in favour of the ryots, he said.
The minister criticized that the congress government spent only Rs. One crore for fisheries development and ignored the welfare of the fishermen in Telangana area. Stating that the TRS Government is committed for the welfare of fishermen community, Harish Rao maintained that Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has allotted Rs 100 crore for fisheries development. The TRS Government is giving 100 per cent subsidy which reflects the affection of the chief minister towards fishermen community. The lakes and water bodies will get fish seedlings and enable the fishermen community to eke out their livelihood, Harish remarked. He exhorted the market yard officials to offer better services through staying at the premises until the last bag of farmers’ produce is procured with remunerative prices. The government waived off farm loan and will release the rest of the funds soon, he said adding that steps were already taken for increasing storage capacity with more godowns and efforts to offer better price to the farm produce.(NSS)
