Marketing Minister T Harish Rao today made a surprise visit to Janagam Market yard and inquired about purchase of Tur Dal and minimum support price to the farmers. He instructed the officials to purchase the produce for MSP and avoid conflict. The farmers are on war path for MSP for three days as the officials have stopped purchasing the produce. Interacting with the farmers he said that the government will purchase the quality produce at MSP. He tried to convince the agitating farmers for MSP and offered better price to their produce.
The minister discussed with FCI, Marketing and district officials and heard the arguments of farmers associations’ leaders and farmers at the market yard. We are expecting to reach the target to increase crop production to 4 lakh mt against one lakh mt he said. The minister stated that they have started 63 purchase centers out of 80 and the rest will be started soon. This season we are expecting the agriculture produce manifold and arrangements for purchase is being made Harish said. Fearing attacks officials purchased produce for time being as long as the minister stayed there and later stopped the same. With joint collector and marketing officials intervention and of promise of no conflicts they started purchasing the produce. (NSS)
