Hyderabad: With the wholesale price of onion was decreasing, Irrigation and Marketing Minister T Harish Rao here on Saturday directed the officials of the Marketing Department to take immediate steps to help the onion-producing farmers in the State.
At a meeting with the officials of the Marketing Department, the minister asked them to create awareness and encourage them to sell onion at remunerative price directly in the Rythu Bazaars. He also asked the officials make special facilities that the onion farmers sell the essential commodity at not less than Rs 11 per kg for the benefit of the producer and the consumer.
On the direction of the minister, the supervising officers and Rythu Bazaars’ estate officers in the twin cities met at an emergency meeting and formulated guidelines. As part of the program, Harish Rao asked the officials concerned to tour onion producing areas like Mominpet, Marpally, Siddipet, Chevella, Shankarpally, Nawabpet, Shivvampet and other mandals in Medak, Ranga Reddy and Mahbubnagar districts and create awareness among the onion farmers and see that they sell their produce directly in the Rythu Bazaars at reasonable remunerative price. He also directed the officials to make arrangements that the consumers procure onion in the Rythu Bazaars at a reasonable rate. (NSS)
