Hard-core Maoist surrenders before police

Jharkhand: A hard-core Maoist, who was carrying a reward of Rs 15 lakh on his head, today surrendered before the Superintendent of Police, police said.

Dibba Pahan surrendered before SP Ashwaini Kumar Sinha, Khunti, in the presence of DIG R K Dhan, Commandant Raj Kumar and other police officers, they said.

Pahan was involved in the gunning down of MLA, Tamar, Ramesh Munda, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Pramod Kumar and Inspector Francis Indwar in the past.

A cheque of Rs 15 lakh was handed over to him under the government’s surrender policy for rehabilitation.

Earlier, the district police recovered arms and ammunition following a special campaign launched against People’s Liberation Front of India (PLFI) in extremist-hit Koenjhar Jungle under Murhu police station of the district last night, Sinha said.

The Security forces recovered three carbines, one double barrel gun, one country-made pistol and four loaded magazines, he said.

He said the arms and ammunition belonged to the PLFI’s self-styled Sub-Zonal Commander Jida Gudia and Area Commander Pattu Nag, who along with aides managed to escape under cover of darkness on seeing the approaching security personnel.
