Kurnool, July 24: Unable to bear `harassment’ by teachers at school, two girls committed suicide by hanging themselves from the ceiling fan at their house in Lakshminagar in Kurnool town this evening.
Sandhya Devi of Class X and Sivalalitha Class IX were cousins studying in the same institution — Vidyavikas High School near their joint-family home. Sandhya’s father Sambasivudu and Sivalalitha’s father Shankar are brothers. On returning home from school this evening, the girls spent some time studying. Meanwhile, their parents went out for a while, returning at 6:30 p.m. — only to be confronted with the horrific sight.
In their suicide note, the girls said they were being harassed over petty things and held teachers Ugandhar, Aruna, Swati and Suhasini responsible for their death.
Kurnool DSP Manohara Rao, Mandal Education Officer Mallikarjun, Circle Inspector Srinivasulu and Three Town Sub-Inspector Muralidhar Reddy rushed to the spot. The police registered a case based on the suicide note and took up investigation.
Meanwhile, student organisations like the All-India Students Federation and Students Federation of India swung into action demanding cancellation of recognition to the school.
