Hapur: One lynched to death, another critically injured over rumour of cow slaughter

Hapur: A Muslim man was lynched to death following a rumour of cow slaughter in a village in Pilkhua near Hapur district of western UP. According to sources, some village women informed other villagers that four persons were seen taking cattle for slaughter. A group of 25 people started thrashing them. While two of the victims managed to escape, Qasim and Samiuddin were assaulted. On receipt of information, the police reached the spot and rushed the injured person to the nearby hospital. Qasim succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment. Samiuddin’s condition is also said to be critical.

According to local sources, Samiuddin of Madapur village had tied two cows and a calf in agricultural land adjacent to Bachaida Khurd. Some people who saw the cattle suspected it to be a preparation for cow slaughter. Soon the rumour spread and the angry crowd started beating the four people.
