Ludhiana: Beaten up, stripped in front of classmates for wearing a pair of short pants, a class 11 student studying in a private school committed suicide on Thursday night.
The incident is reported from Ludhiana where the student was allegedly insulted, humiliated for wearing shorts by his teacher, News18 reports.
The victim identified as Dhananjay Tiwari, 17 had been mentally disturbed and was not eating for the past two days stated the family.
Unable to deal with this humiliation, the victim hanged himself from a ceiling fan at his home.
It was found the victim two before his death had gone to school wearing short pants which the teachers found inappropriate and objected to.
According to reports, the school teachers on receiving permission from the principal, tied the victim’s hands with his tie and slapped him repeatedly and later humiliated him by stripping his clothes in front of the whole class.
Reacting to the incident, Punjab chief minister Amarinder Singh tweeted: “Deeply anguished to hear of a Class 11 student committing suicide after facing harassment by teachers at school. Have directed DC Ludhiana to personally look into the matter and report to me. My thoughts are with the family in this time of grief.”
Meanwhile, the victim’s family has demanded an FIR against the school principal and two teachers for abetment to suicide.
