A physically challenged person, Ramakrishna, attempted suicide by setting himself afire in the premises of the MPDO office (Mandal Parishad Development Officer) at Bijinapally mandal headquarters on Wednesday.
Ramakrishna has been visiting the MPDO’s office for the past nine months requesting the authorities to sanction pension to him. On Wednesday, he met MPDO Pandarinath and urged him to grant pension to him. But, the MPDO reproved him. Felt humiliated with the MPDO’s reckless behavior, Ramakrishna attempted suicide.
Government officials and political leaders, who were present at office premises, did not make an attempt to stop Ramakrishna from taking the extreme step. Local people came to Ramakrishna’s rescue after he started to cry with burns.
Later locals shifted Ramakrishna to Nagarkurnool Area Hospital in an ambulance. He is battling for life with serious burns. The activists of Left parties staged a dharna demanding action against officials who drove Ramakrishna to attempt suicide.
