Hand over list of incidents to top cop, Guj Govt told

Ahmedabad, May 25: The Nanavati-Mehta Commission probing the 2002 Godhra train inferno and the riots thereafter on Tuesday directed the Gujarat Government to give maverick IPS officer Sanjiv Bhatt a list of incidents in respect of which he is sought to be cross-examined.

This order was passed by the two-judge panel after the IPS officer sought an adjournment of his deposition till he is given legal assistance for answering the questions of the Government counsel.

Bhatt, who is being cross-examined following his controversial claim that Chief Minister Narendra Modi had asked the State’s cops to “allow Hindus to vent their anger” during the VHP-sponsored bandh in protest against the train burning at Godhra on Feb 27, 2002, also alleged that he is being subjected to slander campaign by raking up past accusations.

The Commission refused to entertain Bhatt’s request but asked the State Government Counsel SB Vakil to submit list of incidents about which he is sought to be cross-examined.
